plant update: i got a spray bottle b/c the very tips of the peace lily's leaves were wilting, which could mean many things but the most likely one is that the humidity is too low. so i guess now i'll try misting it weekly or at increasing intervals to see how that goes.

it gets super dry here in the winter though; my skin always ends up cracking. so maybe i will have to switch to more heavy-duty methods then. or maybe having plants will stop it from being quite so dry, especially if i keep misting them.

there's a store nearby that, from the windows at least, seems to carry nothing but fancy plant pots, maybe i could get like a... one of the things i read recommended was getting a shallow tray and filling it with gravel or rocks, and then using that as the overflow pan for the plants. so all the water goes there and then humidifies the air around the plants. (i mean also maybe a factor: having the window open so that the humidity indoors equalizes w/ outside. but w/e, there are many factors.)
