so i've been playing warframe
it sure is an experience. like i guess the only game in the same kind of genre i've played was phantasy star online. it took me like a day to realize that the reason i felt like the controls were so wobbly was because i was really expecting enemy lockon. rather than it being. an fps. i am absolutely not used to mouselook + wsad controls.
(plus, wsad, ugh. it took me years and years to realize that was the "preferred" input setup b/c most people were right-handed.)
anyway it's very pay-to-win; there's an unremitting grind to get things if you don't want to pay (to get money to buy blueprints, to grind for materials to make the materials you need to make your gear, etc). i had ignored the "market" for a while b/c i assumed it was just "here is the real money shop" but it's actually also the main shop regardless. and of course there aren't things like weapon drops; you have to buy everything or play the game for the materials to make them.
which strikes me as interesting because... like okay so let's say you give them a bunch of money and get yr gear and... then what? grind for the materials to make all the other gear? like the entire game is abt getting mats; if you remove that mechanic what is actually left? (top-tier group pvp apparently, which is weird because that's like an entirely different genre of game vs. the rest of it, but really that's online games these days for you)
also they use the same tilesets for installations on mercury and on earth. like earth has some unique outdoor sets and i assume some other places have their own unique tilesets but there's a lot of generic overlap. which. i guess.
i guess it strikes me as interesting because there's not... that much game there? in the sense that it is all "here's a random map instance, here's one of maybe eight kinds of map type that amounts to kill people / collect things, here's a very empty loot table and here's a bunch of gear", and like... that's it, that's the game? and it's enough of a game for lots of people to play.
i guess i've gotten really used to games that HAVE MORE VERBS >:E or w/e. a game that is just shooting seems very... minimalist.
ANYWAY, ALSO THERE ARE LOTS OF SEXY ROBOTS
